When are you having a baby?

...and it has already begun.

I don't blame anyone for asking.  Maybe given my situation, I just know not to assume everyone CAN have kids.  Not to mention not everyone wants to.

I have already had thoughts like - what will I do with my time?  I guess it sounds silly since I do work full time, but once someone has kids, their time - days, nights and weekends are pretty much jam packed.

We have a bunch of things we would like to do to our house (which is going to cost a small fortune), so I think I will focus on saving for that, living an active and healthy lifestyle, and traveling.

We are I am already planning a trip next May which includes our 1 year anniversary.  Saro hasn't the first clue how to book a trip LOL.

First stop will be 2 nights in Iowa for our friends wedding, then Seattle to visit my aunt for 3-4 nights and possibly California to visit my Grandma for a few nights.  I haven't seen her in a few years so it would be nice.

So I have 10 months to plan this fun trip!  Plus work on ordering our wedding album.

One day a time is all you can do!

Happy Birthday, Husband!

Wow, what a weekend!  Engagement party, babies, birthdays, oh my!

My cousin who was my matron of honor, had her baby on Saturday.  I spent a few hours with them at the hospital yesterday.  He is sooooo cute and they're all doing well.

We also had my other cousin's engagement party on Saturday.

Sunday was my mother-in-law's birthday and today is Saro's!

The big 3-9.  I already have an idea what I'm going to do for his 40th ;)

Happy Birthday, Saro!  I'm lucky to have you as my best friend and husband.  I wish you a great day and many more birthdays!

Road Trip Essentials

Happy Friday!  I've got a busy and fun weekend ahead.

A few weeks ago, I received an email from RelayRides
They asked me to write a post about my favorite road trip essentials.

On a road trip, I don't mind driving.  This is probably because I get extremely car sick when I'm not in the driver's seat.  I DEFINITELY cannot read in a car.  If I am not driving or need a break, I will almost always fall asleep.

So, here are my road trip essentials (and this is my first mood board!)

A pillow and blanket to take a nap
Snacks - Popcorn and fruit that's easy to eat while driving
Water - Might cause more restroom stops but hey
GPS - The obvious
iPhone - Music
First Aid Kit - You never know!
A cooler - for the water, snacks, etc.

I'm sure there are more things I'd pack but these are definites.

What would you never leave behind when embarking on a road trip?

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Thrifty Thursday, or not?

Happy Thursday!

Today's Thrifty Thursday is brought to you by a cheap deal I got on tampons the other day at CVS.  Highlight of my week - HA!  It was the 36 pack for $3 (normally $8).

Now for the not-so-thrifty-thursday part.

I just recently updated our budget on Excel which includes a combined budget and then just mine and just Saro's.  We pretty much make the same amount of money and spend the same each month.  It's pretty really scary how quickly everything adds up.

I always read that you should have a savings which amounts to what you make in 6 months - LOL.  While this is a good idea for emergencies, lay offs (let's hope not), etc. it's not exactly realistic.

I honestly don't know what we could cut back on except going out to dinner (which is typically once/week at around $50).  I try to stock up on restaurant.com certificates, living social deals, etc. but of course they're not for our favorite go-to spots.  It's nice to go out once a week whether it's mid-week or during the weekend.

We could also probably cancel HBO and some other movie channels to save around (I'm guessing) $25/month.

That's about all I can think of though.  We don't shop for ourselves very often and we often put household items/needs/projects before new clothes, shoes, etc. because well, that's priority.

So far this week, I've cooked each night or had leftovers and packed my lunches.  I'm normally pretty good at this but sometimes fall off the wagon and stop for coffee more often, etc.  I consider myself lucky that my job has lunch for us 1-2x a week so that saves some time and money.

Do you find the general cost of living is super high where you live, too?

What have you cut back on recently?

Wedding Wednesday: The Many Little Details

 Hello all!

Today I'd like to share the little details from our wedding.

I typed these up on MS word and framed them for the bars.

We also had these straws on the bars next to the drink menus.

Mini jars of honey that we put together for the favors.  The sticker says Rachel & Saro May 4, 2014.  Click here for the mini dippers.  I bought the lace at Jo Ann and just cut it into small squares.  I can't remember which site I got the small organza bags from.

Table numbers made by Saro & I.  I bought extra Scrabble letters here.

I purchased this font from Etsy, typed the names and printed on card stock.  Saro sliced the wine corks.

I also purchased this menu template from Etsy, typed and cut.

Hotel welcome bags.  I purchased the NJ stamp and tags from Etsy and the bags from Michael's craft store.

Cake topper also from Etsy.

Napkins & matches from The Knot Wedding Shop.  The mints are just Life Savers with stickers from evermine.com.

Champagne flutes are from Crate & Barrel.  The burlap is recycled from my bridal shower favors and I just hot glued it to the lace and added the letters :)

One of the girls bouquet and the ceremony programs.  Can you guess where they're from?
Yes, Etsy again.

I can't find a picture but I also purchased these charms for the bridesmaids bouquets.

This is my bouquet all dried up but you can see the charms I had on it with photos of both of my Grandpas who are no longer with us.

My something blue sewn into my dress.

The guys socks matched the girls dresses.

That pretty much covers the small details!

Have a great day :)

Always - Sometimes - Never

Happy Thursday!  Today is my Friday so I'm pretty excited for a 3 day weekend.  Tomorrow I took off to legally change my name and then we are heading to PA for Saro's daughter's high school graduation (I don't like the term step daughter and step Mom).  I pray it doesn't rain or else there aren't enough tickets for me to go indoors to see the graduation.  It's over 2 hours away so it's not like it can be a last minute decision if I go or not.

I'm linking up with Erin today to share the things I always, sometimes and never do.

I always:
  • Wake up at 7:10 M-F.  The first thing I do, zombie faced, is make a cup of coffee.
  • Eat breakfast.
  • Shower before work versus before bed.
  • Try to pack my lunch for work to save myself $7/day.
  • Get back to people when I say I will. (call, text, etc.)
I sometimes:
  • Wish I never started running.  I think it's a love/hate.
  • Just don't want to cook during the week, even though I enjoy cooking.
  • Leave my shoes out and then trip over them.
  • Wish the area I live in wasn't so crowded and high strung.  Everyone is in a damn rush at all times.
I never:
  • Want to have another MRI in my life.
  • Like doing the laundry.  I don't know how 2 people have so much every week.
  • Go to bed without double checking the back door to make sure it's locked.
  • Have coffee black.

Have a great weekend!

10K GWB Recap

On Sunday, I ran an unexpected 10K.  I had planned on the 5K.  The 10K was starting at 7:45am and Saro went and got in line for that one around 7:35.  The 5K was starting at 8:15 so I was just hanging around - I saw 2 of my coworkers and my aunt.

At 7:50, they had called for EVERYONE to line up, so I figured they were just starting early.  Not once did they mention it was just the 10K.  I couldn't have been the only one who started early!

So, I start running and I knew it was the 10K when we got to the END of the bridge (2 miles from the start).  I've done this 5K 2 times before and we always turn around in the middle of the bridge.

Anyway, I did it!

Distance: 6.2 mi
Pace: 11:43 min/mi
Official time: 1 hour & 13 minutes (Map my run was way off and I did NOT go swimming in the Hudson River!)

Saro finished in 1 hour & 2 minutes and at exactly 10 min/mi!

We had fun and the weather was perfect.

National Running Day!

Today is National running day, one of my best friend's birthday and my cousin's due date!  My little "nephew" (2nd cousin sounds blah) can come out any time now!  I feel like she has been pregnant forever.  She's the most active pregnant person I've ever known.

She was doing 3 mile walks just last week and has been cleaning and prepping for "Bean" as we've been referring to him for the last 10 months.

Today I will NOT be running.  I ran last night (hot, humid and gross) and have another 5K coming up on Sunday.

Tonight my aunt and cousin are coming over for dinner right after work.

If you do run today, I hope it's a good one!

Our Howling Dog

For those of you who don't know, we have a 2 year old dog.  We adopted him from North Carolina and we are pretty sure he is German Shepherd and Dingo.  Here is a dog of the same mix (I just Googled and thought this was actually Murphy for a minute!)

Murphy's long lost relative?!

Here's the real Murphy!

Well anyway, we are now thinking maybe he's part wolf ;) On Sunday I was playing fetch with him in the yard, waiting for Saro to return from PA.  After about 30 minutes, he was tired & went to lay in the shade.  I turned my back and heard him howling (along with the fire sirens in town!)

In the 2 years we've had him, we've never heard him howl.  He just cries when he wants attention or has to go "potty" and barks his head off at the mailman.

I was laughing so hard, tears were coming down my face.  I think it was SO funny because he was so relaxed, just laying there, howling away.  You can hear me laughing in the video below.

My fourth 5K

Yesterday, I did my fourth 5K with Angela.  It was a really nice day.  The course was pretty hilly (if you've been reading, you know I avoid hills) but I would do it again.  It was about 240 people and I came in 115th!  Ha.

Well duh, they're not free but $ goes to good causes! ;)

Distance: 3.26 miles
Pace: 10:46 min/mile
Total time: 35:06

All in all, not bad.  If it were a little more flat, I proably could have done it closer to 33 minutes or so.  I'm feeling pretty good today despite the fact that I could have used another 3 day weekend.

I've been super tired lately.  I even napped (naps are becoming more frequent) after the race yesterday.  I go back to my endocrinologist this week and I'm going to mention the fatigue.  In the last few weeks, there has been more than one instance where I am so tired I literally can't keep my eyes open and I have to lay down.

I've been on thyroid meds for a few months so I'm not sure why just the last few weeks, it's been worse.  I feel like I've been dragging myself out of bed.  Then, I'm pretty good from 9am-2 or 3pm and I get super drowsy again.  I am pretty routine and sleep 10:30-7 every night.

Have a great week, all!
